We may have a new name since officially rebranding to BIG Fiber earlier this year, but our core mission remains the same. Our new name better reflects our incredible growth and commitment to powering the future of AI and cloud computing with the BIG Fiber that is required!
BIG Fiber Launch on Lightwave
The news recently caught the attention of Lightwave. Our own Chief Commercial Officer Patton Lochridge was invited to be a guest on the Lightwave+BTR Broadband Pulse Podcast to talk about the evolution of BIG Fiber. There is a lot of ground to cover in the company’s six-year history, including the addition of the Greater Portland dark fiber network and significant expansions in the San Francisco Bay Area and Greater Atlanta areas!
Lochridge also talked about the dark fiber market in general, and how it is especially changing in 2025 amid demands for more computing power brought on by AI. According to a recent study, it’s evident that the use of AI continues to rise, with 78% of respondents stating that their organizations now apply AI to at least one business function — an increase from 72% in early 2024 and just 55% a year prior. This creates a need among their digital infrastructure partners to offer an environment that can keep up with the immense demand that AI requires.
It also creates a need for digital infrastructure to be built outside of traditional data hubs. In Atlanta, for example, city council members have voted to place greater restrictions on where data centers can be constructed within the city limits, pushing the data hub to outlying areas. BIG Fiber is well positioned to assist with the demand for growth in those developing areas to meet the need for services.
Whether entering new areas or expanding current infrastructure in established markets like the San Francisco Bay Area, BIG Fiber’s primary goal is to build access to fiber where others aren’t located, or where legacy networks no longer meet modern demands.
